About Neal Pickersgill
Neal is a retired former operational officer from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service and is still actively working within the specialist rescue arena in the UK and Internationally.
In addition to his operational WM role he was also the deputy team leader of Greater Manchester’s UKISAR and Urban Search and Rescue Team. Originally trained by FEMA in the USA and completing many other Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) training courses he was active as a Brigade and Regional subject matter expert for USAR and attended and organised training development programmes and exercises around the UK.
As a specialist trainer he has researched, organised and ran training courses in Confined Space entry and Rescue, Trench Rescue, Bariatric Handling and Rescue, Rope/ Lace access, Heavy Transport Rescue, Technical Shoring and all aspects of USAR Rescue. He has also worked alongside partner agencies in a variety of tasks including cadaver and suicide recovery, Bariatric recovery and movement, MTA and specialist search assistance.
He responded operationally to many USAR and Technical Rescue incidents within the UK and led the GMFR’S UKISAR team at the Japan Tsunami/ Earthquake.
